Dr. Liao's philosophy in teaching is best described in his own words, "In all my teaching, I have paid special attention to the students' background and feedbacks, the development of modern technologies, and our society's needs." There is no doubt that Dr. Liao has put this into practice. He prepares his lectures with great care and enthusiasm. Dr. Liao is able to make a few difficult subjects that he teaches, such as simulation and operations research, enjoyable for mathematics students and students of other majors. Emphasizing theory and, more importantly, practical implementation, Dr. Liao has maintained active contact with a number of companies to identify interesting industrial problems as projects for his BSc. and MSc. students. Dr. Liao's effort is rewarded by his popularity amongst students, as demonstrated by the fact that more students want to do their projects under his supervision than he can handle, even though his projects are very challenging.
