Dr. Noel Yee-Man Siu

The Selection Committee is much impressed by Dr. Noel Siu’s dedication to service in many different capacities and at all levels of the Department, School and University over the years. She has also been selfless in devoting her expertise and experience for the benefit of the community at large.

Dr. Siu has been the reliable mainstay of the Marketing Department. Since 2009 she has successfully initiated two innovative and pioneering postgraduate programmes in the capacity of Founding Programme Director. These are the MSc in Global Marketing Management launched in 2013-14, and the MSc in Entrepreneurship and Global Marketing to be launched in 2017-18. Both programmes serve as a model of successful collaboration with well-regarded partners, focusing on the development of internationalisation, creativity and enterprise. Their unique qualities in the academic community also enhance the University’s international reputation. Great care was taken in the choice of partners to ensure that their reputation was on a par with that of our University.

The MSc in Global Marketing Management is offered jointly with the University of Sheffield in the UK. Students study in the UK in Semester One and in Hong Kong in Semester Two, thereby exposing students to two different cultures in a single year. The University of Sheffield ranked 84th in the QS World University Rankings in 2016-17.

The MSc in Entrepreneurship and Global Marketing (GEM) is offered with the Grenoble École de Management in France. GEM is ranked 14th in the Financial Times grading of European business schools. Thanks to the great efforts devoted by Dr. Siu and the team she has led over two years, the accreditation exercise for this programme was completed successfully in September 2016.

Apart from these major service contributions to the School and the University, Dr. Siu has served in a wide variety of committees and advisory bodies in the University, the academic community and Hong Kong society. These services have included being Associate Programme Director of the BBA programme, playing an instrumental role in strategic issues related to student exchange, internships, the student ambassador scheme and general promotional activities.

Outside the campus Dr. Siu has made valuable contributions to public statutory bodies, for example giving advice on marketing strategies to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Since 2008 she has served on seven accreditation panels with the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic & Vocational Qualifications. Dr. Siu has also found time to provide voluntary services in developing business models and marketing strategies for non-governmental organisations and social enterprises.

In view of Dr. Siu’s unreserved commitment to such a broad range of services both to the University and the community, the Selection Committee recommends her for the President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Service.
