Dr. Yue Kin Man Kevin

A founding faculty member of the School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) who joined the University in 1998, Dr. Kevin Yue has made outstanding contributions to the School’s establishment and robust development into a prominent and reputable school of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong and beyond.

Dr. Yue is instrumental in the recruitment of quality students in Hong Kong and from mainland China and Taiwan for SCM’s two undergraduate programmes, namely the Bachelor of Chinese Medicine and the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biomedical Science and the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) in Chinese Medicine.  In addition to formulating the recruitment strategies, he has also been involved in nearly all of the admission talks for prospective students and the parents over the years.  Owing to his leadership and efforts, the mean admission score for the former programme is the highest in the University for four consecutive years from 2013-14 to 2016-17.  In order to nurture interest in Chinese medicine among young people, Dr. Yue would go to great lengths to establish connection with primary and secondary schools, and his efforts include helping them to develop a Chinese medicine curriculum which teaches basic concepts and knowledge of Chinese medicine and to set up their own herbal gardens.

As the coordinator of two Community of Practice (CoP) projects, namely “CoP on Whole-person Education in Medical Services” and “CoP on Enhancing and Assessing Students’ Attainment of Graduate Attributes through Innovative Teaching & Learning Activities in Formal Academic Courses”, he has enhanced the quality of the whole person education provided by the University.  In addition to being a major partaker in the CoP projects at the University, Dr. Yue represented the University to present the success of the CoP projects at the Lilly Conference in Bethesda, USA in 2015 and at the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia Conferences  in 2016.

Dr. Yue is enthusiastic about the promotion of service learning to inculcate a sense of social responsibility and citizenship among the students.  He is also keen on utilising new technology and innovative approaches to enhance teaching and learning effectiveness.  With the support of the project entitled “Reinforcing the Importance of Academic Integrity and Ethics in Students through Blended Learning”, he uses Augmented Reality in his Service Leadership course and in the training of Hall Tutors of the Undergraduate Halls.

Dr. Yue’s rich experience in communicating with students and handling student matters makes him an ideal Resident Master.  As Resident Master of C.N. Yang Hall since September 2011, Dr. Yue has demonstrated his love for students and a good understanding of their needs and sentiments.  He has biweekly breakfast gatherings with the student residents and he organised additional training camp for his Hall Tutors with a view to developing them into compassionate and self-disciplined leaders.

Equally devoted to the wider community, Dr. Yue is currently a member of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Working Group on the Renovation of the Hong Kong Medical Science Museum, and an adviser to the Dashun Policy Research Centre, a think-tank that conducts research and makes proposals to the government on public policies.

On account of his exemplary and valuable contributions to SCM, the University and the community at large, Dr. Kevin Yue is a truly worthy recipient of the President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Service.
