Mr. Huang is not only one of the renowned scholars in Modern Chinese Literature, but also an outstanding teacher. His teaching methodology is to guide students to learn on their own. His lectures are brief but the following discussions are often intellectually very stimulating and enable students to understand the subject in great depth. Many research students like to study under his supervision. Having a genuine concern for students'
academic growth, he makes arrangement for postgraduate students to informally
attach to overseas institutions. He has also set up a forum on modern Chinese
literature on the internet to facilitate discussion among students and scholars.
His informal 'Literary Theory Canon Reading Group' (文學理論經典讀書會) is well attended by lecturers and research students from other tertiary institutions.
