Prof. Wong has a long and impressive list of academic as well as community services. Within the University, he had served as Head of the Biology Department from 1986 until December 2002. He has made significant contribution in building up a good image of the University through hosting of and active participation in high level international conferences. Under his able directorship, the Institute for Natural Resources and Environmental Management and HKBU-RCEES Joint Institute of Environmental Sciences serve as interdisciplinary research and technology transfer centers, enabling the practical application of new technologies and boosting local, national and international cooperation in environmental research. A measure of Prof.Wong's international reputation, not only as a scientist in his field, but also in his abilities as an administrator can be reflected in his appointment as coordinator of Central and East Asia of the project entitled "Regionally Based Assessment of Persistent Toxic Substances" sponsored by United Nation Environmental Programme (UNEP). Prof. Wong also serves as members of the editorial boards for several SCI journals, and is presently the Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Environmental Geochemistry and Health (Kluwer Academic Press). Prof. Wong's valuable services to the University as well as to the academic community have won him much respect from his colleagues.
