Prof. Zhu Shi-yao is an internationally renowned scholar and a leader in the field of quantum optics and laser physics. His outstanding research in the specialty has won him a number of international and national awards, including the Chinese National Award in Natural Sciences (Third Class) and the 17th Khwarizmi International Award from the Iranian Government. Throughout the years, citations of his work have accumulated to more than 3,000. His honours are also many, with the most recent ones being his election as Fellow of the Institute of Physics and as Fellow of the Optical Society of America, in recognition of his pioneering work in quantum optics and laser physics with particular reference to lasing without inversion and quenching of spontaneous emission noise. Prof. Zhu has exhibited remarkable academic leadership in organizing international conferences and in serving as an editorial member of various international prestigious journals.
